Preparing for a dieta retreat in the jungle requires a holistic approach that nurtures your body, mind, emotions, and spirit. Here’s how you can prepare:
Spiritual Preparation
• Set Intentions – Reflect on what you seek from the retreat: healing, guidance, clarity, or transformation. Write it down or meditate on it.
• Practice Stillness – Engage in meditation, prayer, or breathwork to connect with yourself and the energies you’ll be working with.
• Develop a Relationship with the Plants – Learn about the plants you will diet with, call their spirit into your awareness, and honor them before arrival.
• Energetic Clearing – Avoid engaging in negativity, gossip, or toxic environments to keep your energy field clear.
Emotional Preparation
• Face Your Fears – The jungle and plant medicines often bring deep emotional releases. Journaling can help process unresolved emotions beforehand.
• Let Go of Attachments – The dieta may require solitude, fasting, or abstinence. Practice detaching from emotional dependencies in your daily life.
• Cultivate Patience & Surrender – Expect the unexpected. The jungle will test your emotional resilience; embracing uncertainty will serve you well.
Mental Preparation
• Educate Yourself – Read about the traditions, teachers, and plants to understand the process.
• Quiet the Mind – Reduce digital distractions, social media, and mental overstimulation to prepare for deep introspection.
• Affirm a Growth Mindset – Remind yourself that challenges are part of the journey and that discomfort leads to growth.
Physical Preparation
• Follow the Pre-Dieta Diet – Usually, this involves eliminating processed foods, alcohol, caffeine, sugar, dairy, salt, and red meat while eating simple, clean foods.
• Detoxify the Body – Reduce toxins, stay hydrated, and practice gentle movement like yoga, stretching, or walking.
• Strengthen Your Body – The jungle can be physically demanding; build endurance with light exercise and exposure to heat if possible.
• Rest & Sleep Well – The dieta can be physically taxing, so ensure you are well-rested before departure.

“The Sacred Dieta: Preparing Body, Mind & Spirit.”
The food-based dieta is an essential part of the master plant path. It is not simply a physical cleanse—it is a sacred agreement between you and the spirit of the plants. It creates the inner space for deep connection, clear visions, and true healing. Observing this dieta is an act of devotion, humility, and respect for the medicine.
Pre-Dieta Preparation – Before Traveling to Peru
Timeframe: Begin at least 7–10 days before your departure (longer if possible)
The Physical Purpose:
• To detoxify the body and cleanse the digestive system
• To purify the blood and nervous system, reducing stimulation and inflammation
• To prepare your body to receive subtle plant energies without interference
The Spiritual Purpose:
• To show respect and commitment to the plants
• To quiet the ego and deepen the intuitive senses
• To become more receptive to guidance, dreams, and internal transformation
Foods to Eliminate:
• Red meat, pork, and all heavy meats
• Dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt, butter)
• Processed foods, fried foods, and refined sugar
• Alcohol, caffeine, carbonated beverages
• Excess salt, spices, and hot peppers
• Garlic and onions (energetically “hot” and disruptive to the dieta)
• Sexual activity, including masturbation (conserves energy for healing)
• Recreational drugs and pharmaceuticals (when safely possible)
Recommended Foods:
• Simple grains (rice, oats, quinoa)
• Cooked vegetables (no garlic/onions)
• Boiled or baked root vegetables (yucca, sweet potato, potato)
• Light fish (in some traditions)
• Herbal teas, especially calming or digestive ones
• Plenty of clean, purified water
Dieta During the Retreat – In Peru
You will be guided and supported in following a specific dieta, which is designed by the maestros based on the plants you are dieting. Meals are intentionally simple, bland, and energetically clean to avoid interference with the plant spirits.
Typical dieta food includes:
• Boiled green plantains or potatoes
• White rice or oats
• Lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers
• Unsalted fish (occasionally)
• No oil, no spices, no sugar, no fruit, no fermented foods
Why?
• Strong flavors, fats, and stimulants “close” the energetic channels and make it harder for the plants to work
• The simplicity allows you to enter altered states of perception more easily
• The physical emptiness creates spiritual spaciousness
Ceremonial Dieta – Preparing Body, Heart & Spirit
In the days leading up to ceremony, we observe a special dieta to prepare ourselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually. This dieta is not just about food—it’s a way of aligning with the sacred, of softening the mind, cleansing the body, and opening the heart to receive.
It is a prayer in motion. A gesture of humility and readiness.

• Open energetic channels for deeper connection with spirit, intuition, and inner guidance
• Quiet the mind and awaken the subtle senses
