What is Kambo?

Kambo is a traditional Amazonian ritual and medicine made from the secretion of the giant monkey tree frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor). It's known for its purging effects and is used by indigenous tribes for cleansing, healing, and strengthening the body and spirit.

What is Kambo?
  • Source: The waxy secretion of the Phyllomedusa bicolor frog.

  • Application: Small burns are made on the skin (called “gates”), and the secretion is applied to those spots.

  • Effects: Rapid onset of intense symptoms like:

    • Vomiting

    • Sweating

    • Diarrhea

    • Swelling

    • Rapid heart rate

  • These effects usually last about 20–40 minutes.

Traditional & Modern Use
  • Indigenous use: Tribes like the Matsés and Katukina use Kambo to:

    • Cleanse the body

    • Sharpen senses before hunting

    • Remove “panema” (bad luck or negative energy)

  • Western use: It's become popular in alternative healing and spiritual circles for:

    • Detoxification

    • Emotional release

    • Boosting immunity and mental clarity

    • Decalcify the Pineal Gland
